World Water Day: March 22, 2021
We celebrate World Water Day, but what do we have to celebrate?
World Water Day is an excellent tool to reflect on this essential resource that we use every day and that we have to value every drop, trying to manage it and make the most of it.
According to the latest United Nations World Report published by UNESCO, on the Development of Water Resources of 2020, the continent that consumes the most water for industrial use is Asia. It is not surprising that in the case of the continent with the largest industrial production on the planet.

This continent consumes approximately 316 km3 / year of water (10% of what it has). It is followed by Europe with 241 km3 / year (54% of what it has available) and North America with 229 km3 / year.
It is evident that Europe is in a situation of much more pressing water stress than Asia or North America, this can be understood by historical, geographical and social issues, but it is obvious that action must be taken to find opportunities to the challenge that implies improving the levels of water stress of the European continent and also for the future of the rest of the continents and the world in general.
With these data in hand, we can think that Europe should be the second continent in industrial production, but it is not like that. The value of industrial production in Asia is approximately 9.3 t $ / year, while North America produces approximately 4 t $ / year and Europe 3 t $ / year.
Today is a good day to reflect on the role we play in the development of water policies and management at the global level, but also at the local level, because every action counts.
History of Water Day
The celebration of the International Water Day was born during a United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, held in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In addition, approved that same year and held for the first time on March 22, 1993.
From here, in March of each year, public bodies, private companies, third sector organizations and, increasingly, citizens who, concerned about the water crisis, climate change, the environmental impact of the activity join the celebration. human and industrial, they are demanding concrete actions to give visibility with worldwide repercussion to all the problems related to water scarcity.
This is how we can find the official website of the United Nations World Water Day, a platform in which each year they promote different initiatives, concrete actions and mention the main actors of this celebration.
The celebration is also an opportunity to remember the Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015, in whose 2030 Agenda for development includes as a priority objective “To guarantee the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all ”.
The management, sanitation and access to water is a great challenge, increasingly greater in the context of climate change, and which should place the management, sanitation, reuse and quality of water in a predominant role in terms of public policy.
In this sense, the treatment and reuse of water are viable and sustainable alternatives to reuse the scarce water resources, which are becoming established as the predominant actions and / or policies and with increasing incidence towards the search for solutions to the problem of water. Water.
Water treatment with biotechnology
In line with the aforementioned, from Amapex with our biotechnology solutions we can help to minimize the environmental impact that industries cause on water, as a result of their industrial activity.
We offer a biotechnological alternative, using bacteria and microorganisms in the industrial wastewater treatment and we enhance them with the technology we develop.
In this way we can reduce up to 90% of pollutants present in the waters, reducing the high economic costs of conventional treatments of these waters and giving a great contribution to the environment.
Thanks to our findings on issues related to industrial wastewater treatment, we have been selected by the European Commission, through its Horizon 2020 program, to be co-financed in the development of new solutions for industrial wastewater treatment.
In addition, at Amapex we have been recognized with the European Commission's Seal of Excellence, a distinction that rewards those projects that stand out for their great ability to improve the competitiveness of companies at an international level thanks to the innovation that these projects develop at the international level. technological and scientific.
If you want to know a little more about the progress of our research and / or participate in the very next pilot test of our biotechnological solution for the treatment of industrial wastewater, write us!
